TRACK & amp; FIELD Crogan tops the field at Ward Invitational



Leetonia's Scott Kyser was named MVP of the field events.
EAST PALESTINE -- Andy Crogan, a senior at Boardman High, will be the area athlete to beat in the high jump this season.
He won the event, clearing 6 feet, 6 inches, at the 32nd Ward Invitational meet Saturday. His effort was 6 inches better than anyone else in the field.
Canton GlenOak was team champion with 84 points. North Canton Hoover was second with 72.5 and Boardman third with 49.
Top Bulldog: Drew Frum of Poland, last year's champ, won the 3200 meters in 9 minutes, 42.4 seconds, as the Bulldogs finished 14th.
Junior David Pykare of Maplewood placed first in the 1600 (4:39.1) and he was second in the 800 (2:04.3).
Leetonia's Scott Kyser, a senior, was named MVP of the field events. He took the discus with a throw of 157 feet, 8 inches and placed third in the shot put (50-8).
Richard Slona of Wellsville won the long jump (22-0) and he placed second in the 400 in 50.3 seconds.
Derrick Williams of GlenOak set the meet's only record as he won the 110-meter high hurdles in 14.0. He also took the 300 hurdles in 40.2. He was also a member of the winning 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
Richard Dexter Holloway of East Cleveland Shaw took first place in the 100 (10.9) and 200 (22.2).
South Range champs: BERLIN CENTER -- South Range took the team title with 83 points, East Canton was second with 71 and Gilmour Academy third with 65 at the Western Reserve girls invitational.
Kim Nemergut of the Raiders won the 3200 meters in 12:15.1 and her sister, Julie, was third in 12:45.5.
Michelle Morrison of Western Reserve took the 300 hurdles (48.4) and was third in the 100 hurdles (17.0). Heidi Kelecava of South Range took first in the 100 hurdles (16.3) and she was third in the 300 hurdles (50.3).
Anne Marie Ricciardi of Western Reserve won the high jump (5-2) and she was third in the long jump (15-5).
Sara Toth of McDonald, a sophomore, took the discus with a throw of 112 feet, 7 inches. Teammate Carol Holmes finished second in the 200 (29.6).
