HONORS
MetroParks awards
CANFIELD -- Mill Creek MetroParks received recognition for developing community events and wetlands from the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association, during the association's annual conference in Toledo earlier this month.
The park system accepted meritorious awards for its Newport Wetland Development and the Albert E. Davies Wetland Trail and for its Sunfest Sand Sculpture Competition.
ADDY recognition
Anthony Snyder, a 1988 graduate of Leetonia High School and vice president of the Join Hands Day program, received an ADDY award from the Northeastern Wisconsin American Advertising Federation.
Snyder was honored in the Public Service Division for the 2000 promotional material created for the Join Hands Day program.
"The goal of the Join Hands Day program is to break down barriers between youth and adults and to motivate people to work together in service," Snyder said. "The youth we talked to didn't want mentors. They wanted a day where they could work as equals with adults."
Promotional materials, developed by Snyder and writing consultant Dorothy Deer from Warrenville, Ill., included a video, action guide, posters, brochures and three newsletters.
Snyder is a Bowling Green State University graduate and now lives in Naperville with his wife and two children. His parents, Edward and Henrietta Snyder, live on Walnut Street in Leetonia.
The promotional material will go on to the District 8 (including Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota) regional competition where winners will advance to the national contest.
