GEORGE WARNER SR., 90 Horse trainer won Living Legend Award
YOUNGSTOWN -- Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Howard Funeral Home for George Warner Sr., 90, of 1320 Shehy St., who died Friday in Windsor Nursing Home.
Mr. Warner was born Jan. 10, 1911, in Springfield, Ky., a son of Harden and Hattie Brady Warner, coming to this area in 1950 from Meadville.
He was a well-known horse trainer who had shown horses in the area and across the country. In 1997, he was awarded the Living Legend Award in New Castle for his horse training.
His first wife, the former Grace Thompson, is deceased.
He leaves nine daughters, Margaret Prater, with whom he made his home in Youngstown, Florence Walker, Carol Walker, Georgeann Walker and Roberta Gabriel, all of Cleveland, Barbara Odom and Glenda Simpson, both of Erie, Stephanie Anderson of Columbia, Md., and Shawn Williams of Pittsburgh; three sons, George Jr. of Youngstown, Gayle of Washington, Pa., and Michael of Pittsburgh; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A son, Daniel H., died in infancy, and a brother, Buck Warner, is also deceased.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
