Black, Jewish group plans D.C. trip for teens
YOUNGSTOWN -- The African-American/Jewish Dialogue, co-sponsored by Saving Our Next Generation and the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation, is taking a teen mission to Washington June 8-11.
The trip is open to 24 black or Jewish youths who will be in grades 10 through 12 in the fall. The cost is $75 a person.
The trip is a chance to build fellowship and understanding of the historical and cultural experiences of the two communities. It will include tours of Jewish and black museums and historical sites, a visit to Howard University and worship.
Participants will also visit Capitol Hill to voice concerns as a unified delegation from the Mahoning Valley.
To be eligible, students must be able to attend all four days of the trip, three orientation programs before departure and complete an application. A panel of the African-American/Jewish Dialogue steering committee chooses the participants.
Applications are available at the Jewish Community Center and the McGuffey Center, or by contacting their church or synagogue.
Applications must be received by Bonnie Deutsch Burdman, JCRC director, 505 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown 44504, no later than April 13. Participants will be notified by April 20. Call (330) 746-3251.
