The Mahoning Valley Civil War Roundtable is taking reservations now for a carpooling trip to Harper’s Ferry, Hill’s Assault at Antietam and Shepherdstown on Oct. 20 – 22. The tour provides a detailed look at “Stonewall” Jackson’s role in the 1862 Maryland Campaign.
Sites will include the siege and battle of Harper’s Ferry, a focus on A.P. Hill’s march and attack at Antietam and an exclusive visit to the Shepherdstown Battlefield, the last battle of the Maryland Campaign. The tour will also include a special anniversary tour of Ball’s Bluff battlefield in Leesburg, Va.
Hotel accommodations are available at the Best Western Historic Frederick, 420 Prospect Blvd., Frederick, Md. Call 301-695-6200 and mention “Mahoning Valley Civil War Roundtable” for the group rate. The guides will begin the tour at the hotel. Attendees will drive their own vehicles to the different sites.
The cost of the tour is $55. This fee is for three professional guides who will lead the tours. One guide is a full-time ranger at Gettysburg NMP, and another is a seasonal tour guide there. The third guide is the Historic Site operations supervisor for Prince William County, VA-owned historic sites. To sign up, contact Dan Welch at dwelch1863@gmail.com.
