Long Description: The Salem Historical Society will offer the popular Underground Railroad tours on the Quakertown Trolley. They will be offered at 12:30 p.m. June 18, July 16, Aug. 13 and Oct. 1, and 1:30 p.m. June 28, July 31, Aug. 21, Sept. 4 and Oct. 23. A docent dressed as a Salem Quaker will focus on the year 1856 and discuss the plight of slaves, the working of the Underground Railroad and the abolitionist movement that flourished in Salem prior to the Civil War. There will be a display of 100 slides providing glimpses inside Salem historical homes, Underground Railroad hiding places and information about several abolitionists in the area. The tour will last approximately 75 minutes. Cost is $15 a person and a minimum of 15 are necessary to conduct the tour. Call 330-337-6733 for reservations.
