Long Description: OCCHA Inc., a Hispanic American civic and cultural organization, will host its fifth International Latino Food Festival from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday at its social hall, 3660 Shirley Road. Guests will be offered a taste of Hispanic cuisine through handmade foods, desserts and beverages. The menu includes items like lecho y pollo asado (pork and chicken roast), arroz con pollo (rice with chicken), guiso de quinoa (quinoa stew), congri (rice with black beans), pastelon (plantain casserole), arroz con ganduiles (rice with pigeon peas) and picadillo (meat hash). Festival attendees can also enjoy pastelillos (fried turnovers), tostones (fried plantains), empanadas (baked turnovers), tamales (corn base filled with meat or cheese), quinoa salad and more. Among the selection of desserts are flan (caramel custard), mouse de maracuya (passion fruit mousse), tres leches (three milks cake), tembleque (coconut pudding) and more. Countries represented will include Argentina, Chile, Columbia, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, Spain, Venezuela and others. Complementing the food will be the culture of these Latin American countries. Guests will be treated to traditional dances, musical performances, and a DJ will provide music. There will be a pinata, children’s activities and raffles. Admission and parking are free. Food prices are based on combination meals and a la carte items.
