Long Description: The 25th annual New Castle Fireworks Festival featuring Arts on the Riverwalk is set for 3 to 10 p.m. Saturday throughout downtown New Castle and will offer an artisan’s market, live entertainment, children’s amusements, arts competitions, interactive activities, and a fireworks finale by Pyrotecnico. New features of the event this year will be 40 foot tall zip line, a Makers Fair that will mix science, technology and art, glass blowing, chain saw carving, fiber arts, a mobile agriculture laboratory, 3-D printing, vinyl cutting, an audio playground from the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, a guest performance by the Carnegie Science Center and visiting artist Gil Teixeria. A young maker’s tent will offer activities like giant spin art, bubble making and pendulum painting. YMCA has set an obstacle course from 3 to 8 and cartoons will be presented at the Warner Theater in The Riverplex from 3 to 9. A juggler and stilt walker, parade size balloons, selfie stations and guest appearances by Captain America, a Minion and Alice in Wonderland will entertain crowds. Guests are invited to participate in the Chalk on the Walk competition in the First Merit Parking lot and along North Street, and Anything that Floats craft building competition in Riverwalk Park on East Washington Street. Crafts will be launched from the East Street bridge at 6, and an American Cancer Society Ducky Derby will launch from the same location at 7:30 The artisan’s market will display handmade goods and crafts for sale at moderate prices. Instructors are set to provide demonstrations at Hoyt’s tent, where a selection of art by local artists will also be available for purchase. Performances from the New Castle Regional Ballet, Funky Fly Project and Occasional Reign will be presented on the main stage, and the New Castle Mini Stars, Elliptica Belly Dance and Hoop Spirit’s fire dancing on the Mill Street stage. There will also be entertainment at street corners along Washington St., and from 3 to 9 p.m. at The Confluence, 214 E. Washington St., and Two Rivers Artisan Coffee Works, 11 S. Mill St. Food will be available for purchase, and local restaurants and bars will be open to festival guests. Those in New Castle are also urged to attend a Wounded Warriors of Pennsylvania benefit concert set for 5 to 10 p.m. Friday at the Riverwalk Amphitheater. Us4Now, Miss Freddye, American Idol semi-finalist Isaac Cole and the Labra Brothers will perform, food vendors and raffles will be offered, and SkyKing Fireworks will present a fireworks display at 10.
