Long Description: The Mahoning Valley Historical Society along with the Iron Soup Historical Preservation Company will host a free History to Go walking tour of the Youngstown Sheet & Tube Company Homes on Sept. 26. Tours begin on the hour at 1 and 2 p.m. and will leave from the Iron Soup Historical Preservation Co., 40 Chambers St., Campbell. With its recent addition to The Society of Architectural Historian's collection of the 100 most important sites in Ohio the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company Homes are being recognized more and more as one of our Valley’s most significant historical places. Highlights on the tour will be the only remaining all original unit complete with original plumbing and tinderbox stove, a look at a before and after unit demonstrating the unique re-usability of the solid concrete structures, along with a look at the last remaining archway in the complex and the mural that was painted in September of 2014. The tour will end at ISHPC offices where visitors can look at maps, blueprints, census counts from the 40’s, 1920 city directories and more. The tour will be approximately one hour and will be rain or shine. People wishing to take the tour or learn more about the Company Homes can either contact ISHPC at 330-531-2883, the Mahoning Valley Historical Society at 330-743-2589.
