Long Description: The 23rd Hubbard Alumni Awards Banquet will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at the St. Patrick Church Hall. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Tickets for the event are $30 and can be purchased at The Soaring Eagle, Joe’s Barber and Style, or the city Auditor’s office. No tickets will be sold at the door. For more information, email baw117@aol.com. The banquet will honor the 2010 scholarship recipients, Anna Giancola, Sarah Northcott, and Rachel Nelson and distinguished alumni, William L. Ruby, Class of 1957 and L. Greg Slemons, Class of 1977. William “Bill” Ruby excelled as an athlete at Hubbard High School in baseball, basketball, and football and was named 1st team All-Steel Valley in all three sports. He continued his education at Wake Forest University on a full athletic scholarship where he was named All Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive and Offensive Ed. Following graduation, Bill was drafted by the Washington Redskins and served his country as a member of the U.S. Army. Following regular duty, Bill served with the Army Reserves. Bill is retired from Duke Power Company and resides in Charlotte, NC with his wife Melva. They have two children, Sharon and David, and four grandchildren. L. Greg Slemons excelled in academics and athletics while at Hubbard High School. Following graduation, Greg received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business administration from Youngstown State University and a Master’s in Educational Administration from Akron University. He began his career as an accountant with Hill, Barth, and King and later returned to Hubbard as the treasurer and chief fiscal officer for the Hubbard Exempted Village School District. Greg has also served as treasurer for the Warren City Schools and currently is the treasurer for the Orange City School District. Greg resides in Canfield, OH with his wife Paula and two daughters, Brianna and Elena.
