Long Description: This event has been organized to help the family of a 17-year-old girl from Kalymnos, Greece, Stavroula "Stacey" Karavokiros, who was born with congenital heart disease and specifically a three-chambered heart. She now lives in Tarpon Springs, Florida and recently graduated from Tarpon Springs High School. While her parents were told to just let her die they refused to give up hope and have been battling her condition ever since. Since she was a month old, Stacey has undergone several open heart surgeries, a pace maker, and two heart transplants. Her mother, Irene, and her four siblings (all US citizens) have relocated to the United States in order to give her the proper care while her father, Michael, stayed behind in Kalymnos to run the small family business. Now as the family is separated, the household expenses are doubled, and her condition continues to worsen Stacey has been in the hospital for over a month as doctors try to avoid another heart transplant. The medications that she is on have begun to take their toll on her other organs as well. In order to have the best chances, the family now must completely renovate their home and ensure that it is germ free and as sanitized as possible. With all of these expenses, funds are limited but we refuse to give up the fight. Please keep her and her family in your prayers. As a community, we should come together in contributing to this cause just as we would hope and pray that others would reach out to us, or someone from our community, in a time of need.
