Long Description: Sheridan’s celebrated 1775 comedy of manners, which featured the linguistically-challenged Mrs. Malaprop, and introduced the word malapropism to the English language, remains one of the gems of the18th century British stage. The story follows the romantic exploits of Capt. Jack, a wealthy young swain who is forced to woo his lover disguised as a poor ensign. The object of his affection is the rapturously inflamed Lydia Languish who has romantic dreams of elopement, scandal and hounds at the fleeing lovers' heels. But her aunt, Mrs. Malaprop, has discovered Lydia's illicit correspondence with her disrespectable “ensign” and locked her away until a better suitor can be found. Enter Sir Anthony Absolute, Jack's irascible father, who proposes his son as a worthy candidate. Poor Jack is now forced to be his own rival for the hand of his beloved, and intrigues begin. In YSU's Bliss Hall, Ford Theater
