Long Description: A 20th-century comic opera about a self-centered woman whose sole desire is to go to the ball. Her husband has found a letter from her lover and confronts her with it. She finally confesses that she has been seeing the "gentleman" upstairs. In a fury, her husband looks for a gun and goes out to find her paramour. Meanwhile, Amelia warns her lover, whose solution is for them to run away together. But she says she can't elope because there's a wonderful ball that evening. When her husband finds them, there is a gentlemanly debate that escalates into a struggle, and the lover knocks out Amelia's husband. When the police arrive, Amelia betrays her lover, who is carted off to jail. Amelia's husband is left for dead, and Amelia gleefully goes to the ball with the handsome police chief.
