ZANESVILLE

Jesse Curry ran 36 times for 187 yards and a touchdown and the Irish rallied for their first victory of the season, defeating Zanesville 13-9 on Friday.

Trevor Smith added 26 yards on 10 carries, including a 1-yard TD run with 9:01 that accounted for the game’s final points.

Chris Durkin completed 3 of 9 passes for 43 yards and two interceptions for the three-time defending champion Irish (1-3), whose first three opponents entered Friday night with a combined 8-0 record.

Wes Hudson completed 9 of 21 passes for 188 yards, including a 73-yard TD pass for Zanesville (3-1), which also got a 27-yard field goal from Payton Norris with three seconds left in the first half. The game was 3-0 at halftime.

Hubbard 53, East Liverpool 7

EAST LIVERPOOL

Hubbard quarterback Ashton Owens passed for 161 yards and three touchdowns for the Eagles (3-1).

Larry Scott rushed 14 times for 184 yards including a 6-yard touchdown.

Darnell Tate returned the opening kickoff 86 yards, scored on a 22-yard run and caught a 29-yard scoring pass from Owens. Zac Merrell’s two touchdown receptions covered 55 and 62 yards.

For the Potters (0-4), Payton Newlon scored on a 7-yard run.

E. Cleveland Shaw 14, Warren Harding 7

EAST CLEVELAND

LeShun Daniels scored on a 1-yard run for the Raiders (12-3, 0-1 Lake Erie League). Daniels rushed 23 times for 116 yards. Jimmy Rumple completed five of nine passes for 12 yards.

Shaw is 2-2, 1-0.

W. Reserve Academy 33, Mathews 22

VIENNA

Joe Siefert ran 24 times for 133 yards and three TDs to lead Mathews (1-3), which led 22-18 with 5:34 left in the third quarter.

Zach Motts completed 3 of 8 passes for 54 yards in the loss.

Austin Petsche completed 19 of 43 passes for 243 yards and two TDs and also ran for a touchdown for WRA (1-2).

Salem 34, Carrollton 17

CARROLLTON

Austin Noel rushed 20 times for 124 yards and three scores for the Quakers (3-1, 1-0 Northeastern Buckeye Conference).

Jake Peterson scored on an 8-yard run and Marcus Crittenden scored on a 27-yard run.

Alliance 55, West Branch 26

ALLIANCE

Frank Hill rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns while Taurice Scott for 127 for the Aviators (3-1, 1-0). Scott completed nine of 22 passes for 228 yards.

Vernon Martin caught five passes for 171 yards including a 25-yard touchdown while Jalen Mays had four receptions for 74 yards.

For the Warriors (1-3, 0-1), Brenden Wells rushed 27 times for 129 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Troy James completed 15 of 21 passes for 115 yards and Aaron Page caught an 11-yard touchdown pass.

Youngstown Christian 53, Lutheran East 0

CANFIELD

A 40-point first quarter put the game away early.

Anthony Abeid rushed three times for 94 yards and a pair of touchdowns covering 40 and 57 yards for the Eagles (3-1).

Abeid also returned an interception 37 yards for a tally.

Emmitt Underwood threw three passes but completed two for scores — a 30-yard strike to Ryan Coyier and a 23-yard aerial to Darin Townsend.

Canton Central Catholic 24, Youngstown East 0

CANTON

Josh Fuchs scored on runs of 1 and 3 yards and Central’s defense shut down East’s running attack en route to the victory.

Todd Locke added a 65-yard TD pass from Shawn Jones and Nick Boron made a 29-yard field goal for Central (3-1).

East (1-3) managed just 62 rushing yards on 38 carries with five first downs. The Panthers completed just 2 of 6 passes for minus-3 yards and two interceptions.
