When the weather starts to warm uo and we spend more time outdoors in the sun, it's time to start thinking about white wines. There are so many interesting options out there for those looking to enjoy something a little different than the traditonal varietals.
White blends have seen an increase in popularity, as they offer diverse flavor profiles and work well with a wide variety of lighter summer foods. Here's a look at four of my favorites I've discovered in some recent rounds of pre-summer tastings:
2013 Montinore Estate "Borealis, The Northern Whites" White Blend (Willamette Valley)
Aromatic floral on the noise with lush orchard fruits flavors of pear and apple with a hint of pineapple with a bright, slightly sweet finish.
2013 Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc - Viognier (Napa Valley, California)
Crisp and refreshing with honeyed citrus fruits, juicy peach and soft floral notes leading to enticing and tantalizing finish.
Displays luring aromas of juicy tropical fruits, fresh lemon and hints of spice. The palate offers pink grapefruit, papaya and subtle sweet mango. This wine is lively, refreshing and well balanced with crisp acidity - perfect for a warm sumer afternoon or during sunset hour!
You might have to do a little digging to find these wines. they likely won't appear on your chain grocery store's shelves, but they are carried by several of our Vallley's better independent wine shops and restaurants. If you don't see them on shelves or wine list, just ask them to order some in for you and enjoy.
