I know that most y'all who read this don't remember the Monotones' Who Wrote The Book Of Love, circa 1958, hey, I was just about 5 years old! Well, I know who wrote A Book of LOVE ,and had the honour of interviewing her, Judith Newman on today's show. I had read a review of To Siri With Love in the New York Times a number of weeks ago : "A Mother, Her Autistic Son and the Kindness of Machines". I contacted Judith and asked her to be on the show "...and feel free to check me out w/ G.G...." was part of my plea to get Ms.Newman schedule (GG , a mutual friend). Judith agreed, I got the book and began reading. I began reading, laughing, then wondering what was dripping on the pages of the book, oh yeah, my tears.... There are a lot of reviews of To Siri With Love by talented journalists and professionals, in newspapers(PLEASE read and support newspapers!), online, on national television, etc. Me? I'm just an auto-didactic. polymathic self-depricating, something or other, but, I read, and I read for a living( break to Jackie Mason: " you call this a living for a man like me?"). I feel and feel very deeply, too deeply for my own good, but I know when something touches me. My unprofessional interview of Judith Newman, today, included her busting me for sniffling, asking if I was alright....if I had Kleenex ...yeah, and I finished the box while my voice was trembling. I know Judith wasn't happy when I asked her to read the last page of the book, but, she did. Folks, this book isn't a novel, it's not a Hollywood blockbuster...I didn't do a spoiler , this is REAL LIFE, real life for Judith, Gus and her family AND REAL LIFE for millions around the world. Hearing the last page isn't hearing the end of the book, it's a call, a call to and for all to read a REAL Book of Love.
