So NOW we get a glimmer of outrage.
Why do we finally see some level of outrage for the horiffic murder of 80 year old, white, Angeline Fimognari ?
Why not the usual questions :
What was she doing out at that time ? (in the 8am hour)
What was she doing there? (attending the Catholic Mass)
Who's the crowd that she was running with? (other praying Catholics)
This afternoon I went to the press conference at Y-town City Hall. A $10,000 reward is being offered to anyone with information regarding the murder of Angeline Fimognari, the 80 yr old white woman who was attending the Catholic Mass at a So-Yo(south Youngstown) church. THIS murder can't be 'brushed away' as has been the case SO many times when young black or brown men are murdered. SOME in the community HAD to REact THIS time.
Now I don't like to see OUR community as the community that just can't get it right, but....
If you're a listener (regular or irregular) to my show, you've heard me query: WHERE'S THE LEADERSHIP ???
From the scapegoating of the recent HUD issue, to the re-emergence of the slime Traficant, to the failure of the Y-town City Schools, to the state of Ohio's failure to properly fund the free library system to,yes, to the violent crimes on the streets of OUR city now "bleeding" into at least one suburb...need I continue?
Fear and Loathing in So-Yo, or Mass Outrage at last
We cannot just look at praise while ignoring criticism, that is, if we TRULY wish to find our way through this morass.
If Entrepaneur Magazine's assessment of this area as #1 for starting a high-tech business(btw- I certainly agree - I've been a bugler for YBI for a decade), then maybe, just MAYBE we should look at what the criteria was for MarketWatch and Forbes gifting us w/failing grades. After all, when you got a word wrong in a spelling test, didn't your teacher make you correct it ? Is that not how we learn ???
There's a great line in an old Frank Zappa/Mothers of Invention song- the song is Trouble Coming Every Day and it's about the 60's riots. Zappa sings " I'm not black, but there's a whole lot of times I wish I could say, I'm not white..."
