YSU men’s basketball adds JUCO transfer

YOUNGSTOWN

Canadian guard Christian Bentley is joining the Youngstown State men’s basketball team, the school announced Tuesday.

Bentley will have two years of eligibility after spending last season at Iowa Western Community College. He spent his freshman year at Sienna.

Last year with the Retrievers, Bentley averaged 12 points, 2.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. At Sienna, he played in 29 games and started in 11 of them, averaging 2.1 points per game. He left the Saints a few months after then-head coach Jimmy Patsos resigned when the university opened an investigation into allegations of verbal abuse of players and misusing player per diem money. Bentley told the Albany Times Union he was “looking for a better situation.”

He joins junior-college forward Jamir Thomas in YSU’s 2019-20 recruiting class.

Correction

Tyrone Lindsey will be Valley Christian’s quarterback next season. An article in Tuesday’s edition incorrectly said his brother Altwjuan Beck-Lindsey would be the quarterback.

Lawsuit blames Tiger for driver’s death

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.

The parents of a drunken driver who died in a car crash last year are suing Tiger Woods. They blame the golfer and his girlfriend for allowing their son to drive home from their Florida restaurant while intoxicated.

The wrongful death lawsuit filed Monday says Nicholas F. Immesberger was served excessive amounts of alcohol before the Dec. 10 car crash. Immesberger worked at The Woods restaurant in Jupiter owned by Woods. His girlfriend, Erica Herman, is general manager.

The lawsuit says Herman recruited Immesberger as a bartender despite knowing he was an alcoholic. It alleges the restaurant’s employees, managers and owners allowed the 24-year-old to drive after being over-served alcohol.
