Rob Thomas is best known as lead singer and primary composer with Matchbox Twenty as well as for his solo work and chart-topping collaborations with other artists.

His hits include solo classics “Lonely No More,” “This Is How A Heart Breaks” and “Streetcorner Symphony.” Matchbox Twenty favorites include “Push,” “3AM,” “If You’re Gone” and “Bent” and of course “Smooth,” his hit collaboration with Santana.

Musical tells story of Jewish singer during rise of Nazis

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Area Jewish Federation will present “Club Gelbe Stern,” a musical in one act, at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane.

Set in 1933 Berlin, “Club Gelbe Stern” tells the story of Erika Stern, a fictional Jewish chanteuse living and performing in Berlin as the Nazis rise to power.

Stern is provocative, feisty and determined to give a magnificent performance. “Club Gelbe Stern” is a cabaret within a play, offering a glimpse of what it may have been like for Jewish performers in the final days of the Weimar Republic.

The cost is $15 (includes dinner). To register, go to jccyoungstown.org.

“Fosse/Verdon” (10 p.m., FX): As Bob Fosse is pulled between multiple projects, he and Gwen Verdon begin rehearsals for “Chicago,” but the mounting pressure may prove too much to bear.
