YSU-WSU baseball game time moved up

DAYTON

The first pitch for the Youngstown State baseball team’s series opener at Wright State today has been moved up to 12:30 p.m.

The game was originally scheduled to begin at 3 p.m., but the threat of inclement weather later in the afternoon prompted the change.

The Penguins and Raiders are still scheduled to play game two of their three-game Horizon League series on Saturday at 2 p.m. and the finale on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The contests today and Saturday will be broadcast live on ESPN Plus.

Inclement weather or the threat of it has forced schedule changes to be made in six of the Penguins’ first seven weekend series of the 2019 season.

Gallacher picks Michigan State

Youngstown Phantoms defenseman Aiden Gallacher has announced his commitment to play for Michigan State University.

The 6foot-1, 180-pounder right-shot defenseman from Rochester Hills, Michh., has played 29 games for the Phantoms. He has scored three goals and made five assists.

“I believe the [Michigan State] coaching staff is second to none and they do a tremendous job of developing hockey players,” Gallacher said.

Former Phantoms forward and captain Tommy Apap plays for attends Michigan State.

Packard Museum to host ‘Meet the Masters’

The National Packard Museum’s popular “Coffee & Donut” will feature a panel discussion entitled, “Motorcycle Competition Champions—Meet the Masters” on Saturday at noon.

The panel will include local motorcycle celebrities — individuals who have had considerable impact on the sport, on a local, national and even international stage. Participants include Frank Gallo, Jim Borer and Bob Wentzel.

Frank Gallo, from Lisbon, became a top nationally-ranked rider and eventually represented the U.S. in the International Six-Day Trial.

The museum’s 19th Annual Vintage Motorcycle Exhibit “Designed to Ride” runs through May 18.

“Designed to Ride” is a retrospective of motorcycle design from the 1910s through the 2000s and features thirty (30) different machines that demonstrate a specific purpose, or a significant advancement or achievement in motorcycling.

Eastern Gateway CC games rescheduled

Youngstown

Eastern Gateway’s Friday and Saturday baseball doubleheaders with Edison State Community College have been postponed.

The Gators will host the Chargers in a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. and a doubleheader Monday at 11 a.m.

Games both days will be played at Austintown Fitch High School’s Rich Coppola Field.

Harden finished 22nd at 92nd Texas Relays

Youngstown State sprinter Collin Harden finished 22nd at the 92nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas on Thursday.

Harden finished fifth in the third heat of the men’s 400-meter hurdles preliminaries with a time of 53.41 seconds.

Greg Schiano steps down leaves Patriots

FOXBOROUGH, Mass.

Greg Schiano has stepped down as defensive coordinator of the New England Patriots, less than two months after taking the job.

The Patriots, who never announced the hiring, confirmed his departure by posting statements from Schiano and coach Bill Belichick on the team’s website.

Schiano said he needs to “spend more time on my faith and family.”

Schiano went 11-21 in two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and spent two years as the defensive coordinator at Ohio State.
