CANTON

Canton Central Catholic took the lead for good with a two-run sixth inning. Vince Armeni was 2 for 3 with a double and three runs scored and Brent Nelson was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs for the Irish (0-2).

Akron SVSM 3, Cardinal Mooney 0

AKRON

JT Ogden, AJ Pepperney, Blake Delsignore and Walter Sweeney all had hits for Mooney (0-1). Ogden also had three strikeouts while pitching.

Newton Falls 10, Edgewood 0

NEWTON FALLS

Josh Honeycutt threw a no-hitter for the Tigers.

Girard 5, Struthers 4

GIRARD

Aidan Warga and Austin Claussell had three hits each to lead the Girard offense. Nick DeGregory drove in three runs on two hits. Billy Opritza had two hits and two RBI for Struthers.

Canfield 10, Boardman 5 susp.

CANFIELD

The game was suspended after seven innings due to darkness and will be finished at a later date. Canfield’s Jad Jadallah was 5 for 5 with two RBIs and Dom Pilolli was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Boardman’s Dylan Gursky and Charlie David were both 2 for 4.

Poland 7, Jefferson 3

POLAND

Braden Olson allowed one hit through five innings while striking out nine to get the win for Poland in its season opener. Zachary Yaskulka was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Braeden O’Shaughnessy had double and an RBI. Steve Cantini had two hits for Jefferson.

Niles 8, Hubbard 7

NILES

Nick Guarnieri led the bottom of the seven inning off with a double. Joe Gallo drove him home for the Niles walk-off win. Gallo had two RBI and two hits. Ken Flanigan and Nick Guarnieri had three hits each for Niles. Corbin Foy also drove in two runs for the Red Dragons. Hubbard was led by Jimmy Palumbo with a hit and two RBI.

South Range 8, Lakeview 5

CORTLAND

Ben Rivera had two RBIs on two hits for South Range and Brandon Mikos stuck out six in five innings while walking three for the Raiders. Austin Vogt had three hits for Lakeview.

Heartland Christian 14, Jackson-Milton 9

NORTH JACKSON

Zach Labon had three hits for the Lions (1-1). Hayden Stewart added four RBIs on three hits. For the Blue Jays (1-1), James Harris had three hits and two RBIs. Nick Rich’s three hits drove in one run. Frankie Prozy had two hits and a RBI.

WARREN

Winning pitcher Cameron Hollobaugh had three hits including two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored. Gavin Schrum had three hits, scored twice and drove in a run for the Eagles (2-0). For the Wildcats (0-1), T.J. Duffui had the only hit.

Canton South 7, Salem 1

CANTON

Three Salem errors helped Canton South take a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Robbie Akers struck out 11 through six innings to get the win.

United 8, St. Thomas Aquinas 3

HANOVERTON

Brady Leyman was the winning pitcher for United (2-0). St Thomas Aquinas (0-3) was led by Alex Hawkins with two hits and an RBI.

SOFTBALL

Austintown Fitch 18, Lakeside 2

COLUMBIANA

Maddy Taylor hit two home runs and had seven RBIs for Fitch (2-0). Ashley Fuller was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle and Lydia Spalding, Kayla Kelty and Ryleigh Morgan each hit a double for the winning side. Kaitlyn Evanko struck out five to get the win.

Girard 10, Struthers 0

GIRARD

Samantha Dohy stuck out eight while giving up two hits and a walk as Girard (2-0) won. Sophie Griffith had three hits and two RBIs. Makayla Durr and Hannah Jones each had two hits, with the latter having three RBIs. Nic Rezzone and Tessa Stocker each had one hit for Struthers (0-2).

Poland 7, Jefferson 1

POLAND

Winning pitcher Ashley Wire tossed a three-hitter, striking out four and walking two. Lauren Sienkiewicz tripled and doubled to drive in two runs for the Bulldogs (1-0, 1-0 Northeast 8). Cami Lattanzio’s two hits drove in a run and Brooke Bobbey tripled.

South Range 13, Lakeview 8

CORTLAND

Jillian Strecansky had four RBIs on four hits, including two doubles and a solo home run. Drew Feren had three hits and two RBIs and Hanna Dennison had a single and a double. Lakeview’s Beady Titus had three hits, including a double. Bree Kohler struck out 12 while giving up 11 hits and two walks. Cait Kelm took the loss for the Bulldogs.

Hubbard 19, Niles 3

CORTLAND

Jackie Adler had a team-high three hits, including a double for two RBIs while serving as the game’s winning pitcher for Hubbard. Sydney Bowser added four RBIs on two hits, including a double for the winning side. Jenna Melius had two hits for Niles.

Lowellville 12, Sebring 1

SEBRING

Madison Kelly tossed a four-hitter, striking out eight and walking one. KC Kelly’s four hits included a double. She scored four runs. Callie Kester contributed three hits, three RBIs and four stolen bases. Jocelyn McMillen had two hits for the Trojans.

BRISTOLVILLE

Kailey Switzer had three hits and drove in the winning run for the Panthers. Jackie Mullenax hit a solo homer. For the Blue Devils (0-1), Megan Ward had three hits and one RBI. Bri Callow and Lucy Wolford each had two hits. Alayna Sines won in relief, striking out eight and walking none in four innings.

West Branch 12, Northwest 2

BELOIT

Jordan Anderson gave up just two hits and struck out three for West Branch (1-0). Anderson added two hits, including a triple and an RBI. Sam Morris led the Warriors offense with three hits and three RBI.

RAVENNA

Katie Mitchell pitched five innings with two strikeouts for Jackson-Milton. The Blue jays offense was led by Chelsea Williams with two hits. Jordan Stratton, Abby Spalding, and Taylor Sahli all singled for Jackson-Milton.

BELOIT

Sam Morris drove in three runs and Sydney Mercer drove in two of her own for West Branch (2-0). Jordan Anderson recorded eight strikeouts for the Warriors. Leah Springer drove in two runs for Marlington.
