BASEBALL

West Branch 10, Girard 6

BELOIT

West Branch (1-0) scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to break open a 5-5 tie. Mason Walker led the Warriors offense with three hits and three runs. Josh Meissner drove in two runs and had two hits and Jarrod Butler had two hits for West Branch. Austin Claussell had two hits and a run for Girard (0-1).

Walsh Jesuit 14, Ursuline 3

CUYAHOGA FALLS

Walsh Jesuit scored seven first-inning runs along with six in the fifth inning to beat Ursuline. Ursuline had just two hits, one each by Vince Armeni and Brent Nelson. Armeni drove in a run and John Schatzel also had an RBI for Ursuline.

Canfield 12, Lakeview 2

CANFIELD

Jad Jadallah drove in three runs for Canfield. Brent Hermann led the Caridnals with two hits and two RBIs. Dom Pilolli also drove in two runs. Nate Shaw struck out five. Lakeview got one hit from AJ McClellan.

SOFTBALL

Crestview 15, Leetonia 0

EAST FAIRFIELD

The Rebels led 6-0 before scoring nine runs in the bottom of the third inning. Haley Eskra and Skyler Mattern each had two singles and a double for Crestview. Mattern drove in four runs while Eskar added three RBIs and four stolen bases for Crestview (1-0). Olivia Strank had two singles and an RBI. Strank earned the win, allowing five hits and three walks. She struck out four. McKenzie Meade went 2 for 3 with two singles for the Bears (0-1). Leetonia pitcher Chloe Dale took the loss.

Canfield 10, Lakeview 8

CANFIELD

Kalin Kovach hit a go-ahead grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning for Canfield. Mary Gomez had three hits and scored twice and Madi Kelly had two hits and two RBI. Raegan Schick, Beady Titus, Cait Kelm, and Marissa Zoicali had two hits each for Lakeview.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Kennedy Catholic 64, Pennridge 62, 2OT

HERSHEY, PA.

Oscar Tshiebwe denied Pennridge a chance to win the PIAA 6A state title three times as the Golden Eagles won their fourth straight state title. Saturday’s final was Kennedy Catholic’s first as a 6A program. The West Virginia commit blocked a would-be game-winning shot at the end of regulation, at the end of the first overtime and in the final seconds of double OT. Tshiebwe had a double-double of 16 points, 21 rebounds and also had five steals and three blocks. Sean Yoder scored 18 points to lead Pennridge.
