The Trumbull County Tourism Bureau has launched the Italian Food Trail passport program to encourage visitors and residents to visit the 15 participating restaurants and appreciate the county’s wealth of fine Italian food.

Passports are free and are available at the food sites, the Trumbull County Tourism office or at ItalianFoodTrail.com while supplies last.

When participants make a purchase of an appetizer, entree or dessert at any site, their passport will be stamped. Those who get stamps from all sites can submit their completed passport to the tourism bureau in exchange for 15 chances to win a $50 gift certificate from one of the sites.

As an additional incentive, the first 100 people to collect eight stamps and return their passport will receive an Italian Food Trail baseball cap. Detailed instructions are included in the passport.

Participating restaurants are Buena Vista Cafe, Country Porch Winery, Enzo’s Restaurant, Giorgio’s Ristorante, Greene Eagle Winery, The Italian Marketplace, Jimmy’s Italian Specialties, Just Pizzelles, Leo’s Ristorante, Margherita’s Grille, Niki’z Pub, Salvatore’s Italian Grill, Sunrise Inn, Too Hot Mamas and Wedgewood Fernando’s Pizza.

Some of the county’s most memorable Italian dishes are rooted in the traditions of the Italian families who settled in the region in the late 1800s and early 1900s, said Amber Beall of the McKinley Birthplace Museum.
