Family events and activities offered during Celebrate Poland

Friday, June 14, 2019

The 13th annual Celebrate Poland event will take place on June 28 and 29, celebrating both Independence Day and the community of Poland, Ohio.

There are two new events to enjoy this year—the “Guns versus Hoses” softball tournament between police officers and firefighters, and a tour of the Truesdale House, owned by Atty. Michael Thompson.

The softball game will take place at 4 p.m. on June 29 at Firemen’s Field on Riverside Drive, across from the cemetery. Vying for a coveted trophy are the village and township police officers and firefighters. The winners will receive their trophy and bragging rights back at the Celebrate Poland main stage behind Village Hall at 6 p.m.

Tours of the Truesdale Home will be available from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on June 29. The 200-year old home is located at 214 South Main Street. A donation of $5 is requested and all proceeds go to Celebrate Poland.

Celebrate Poland will kick off on June 28 at 5:30 p.m. with the annual Strawberry Festival at Poland Presbyterian Church, located at 2 Poland Manor, followed by the Firemen’s Parade at 7 p.m. Following the parade at 7:45 p.m. will be a performance by the Cleveland area retro band, Disco Inferno. The band plays favorites from the Disco Era. Dress in your best 80’s attire.

The festivities will continue on June 29 and will include an arts and crafts show; Poland Idol singing contest; chalk the walks; bounce arounds and a ferris wheel with a new, reduced price; free family games and activities, such as pony rides, Amazon Eric Reptiles and a petting zoo; historic walking tour, blueberry pie baking contest; a DJ; fireworks display and more.

There are sponsor or co-sponsor opportunities available. Signage will indicate who the sponsor is at each event.

School busses will run free of charge from the Poland Seminary High School stadium lot from 6:30-11 p.m. on June 29.

Celebrate Poland is an all-volunteer event, with all costs covered by donations from the community. The Celebrate Poland committee is comprised of local interested citizens and volunteer help.

The website—celebratepolandohio.com— will offer a PayPal link to enable the public to make donations online.
