Boardman Schools consider district realignment

The Boardman School Board is considering a realignment of the district that would close one of our four elementary schools at the end of this school year. On Jan. 10, staff members were briefed on the basic plan. Market Elementary would close in June. While many details must still be worked out, the closure would include the following changes in the district: closing Market Street Elementary and the remaining three elementary schools would become K-3 buildings; all fourth-graders would move to Center Intermediate School, which would become a grades 4-6 building. Superintendent Saxton has also added a video to the district’s new website (https://www.boardman.k12.oh.us/) further explaining the recommended plan. Formal action is expected at the Jan. 28 Board of Education meeting.

Kindergarten readiness stations

Kindergarten readiness stations are in every Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County library branch and feature fun activities for you and your preschool child to complete together. For the month of January, the stations focus on social and emotional development, which is about learning how to manage feelings, manage friendships and solve problems. Before kindergarten, children should be able to recognize and identify their own emotions and the emotions of others. They should also be able to communicate a range of emotions in socially accepted ways. The kindergarten readiness stations offer fun activities to build these skills. Working on these skills now will help children be successful in their interactions with teachers and classmates when they get to school. Stop by any branch to try out our new kindergarten readiness stations and help your child build these important skills.
