Delta Sigma Theta to host Beverly Evans Smith

Wednesday, February 27, 2019

The members of the Youngstown Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. will host Beverly Evans Smith, the national president of Delta, who will speak during a ceremony planned for 2 to 4 p.m. March 16. The event is in honor of the 22 founders who established the sorority in 1913 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. The DeBartolo Stadium Club on Youngstown State University’s campus will be the site of the event. Cost is $45 per person, and all tickets that were purchased for Jan. 19 (which was canceled due to weather) will be honored.

Delta members continue to dedicate themselves to their Five Point Programmatic Thrust: education, health, economics and international and political awareness.

Smith served as the national sorority’s executive director from 1988-1990, managing headquarters operations. She is assistant commissioner and Georgia State director of adult education and GED testing. She has worked in multiple facets of education, including program director of Upward Bound, college administrator for Kent State University, the board of trustees for Bowling Green University and more.

Mayor Jamael Tito Brown will give opening remarks and there will be a welcoming video from Jim Tressel, YSU president.
