AUCTION
Struthers Rotary Club will host its annual duck race and basket auction Aug. 17 at Yellow Creek Park. Ducks will race at noon, and baskets will be drawn after the race. CLASSES
Salem Public Library is offering tai ji classes from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesdays through Aug. 21 in Centennial Park, pavilion 2. Instructor will be Master Doug Nybell, owner of Crystal Dragon Family Martial Arts in Columbiana. Tai ji is a Chinese martial art that promotes good health. It is low impact with flowing movements that can be beneficial to individuals with some physical limitations. Classes are free and for adults of all ages. Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church, 401 Twelfth St., Campbell, will host its Greek Food and Wine Festival from noon to 10 p.m. Aug. 28 through Sept. 2. Admission is free, and there will be Greek foods and pastries, Greek music and folk dancers, indoor and outdoor dining, games, CDs, guided tours of the church and more. Holy Spirit Parish Festival, St. Vitus Catholic Church, 910 S. Mercer St., New Castle, Pa., 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Liberty Alumni Association will host its second annual Fall Fest from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 5 at the L.Y.R.I.C. Vendors who wish to sell their crafts or professional goods are needed. Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County will host Steel Valley Woofstock 2 from 5 to 11:30 p.m. Sept. 28 at Tiffany Manor, 601 Bedford Road SE, Brookfield. Proceeds will benefit the league. Know Your Neighbor Block Watch will host the Rayen Tailgate Fundraiser from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at Rayen Stadium parking lot, Benita and Cordova avenues, Youngstown. The event is to raise funds for the removal of dangerous dead and dying trees, maintenance of two large lots and continuation of youth programs. Guests will be Mayor Jamael Tito Brown and 3rd-ward councilman Nate Pinkard. There will be food, music and games. A contest to decorate cars in orange and black also will take place. Contest entry fee is $10 and there will be a prize for the winner. The event is alcohol-free and family-friendly.
NOMS Ankle & Foot Care Centers will host its 21st annual Diabetes Golf Benefit on Aug. 23 at Pine Lakes Golf Club, 6233 W. Liberty St., Hubbard. Proceeds will benefit the Diabetes Partnership of the Mahoning Valley, which provides education, resources and support for people and families living with diabetes in the community. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at 10:30. Cost is $100 per golfer and includes 18 holes of golf, lunch (served on the course), dinner (served at the pavilion), beverages on the course and skills contests. Players can sign up as foursomes, individuals or pairs. Hole sponsors, corporate sponsors, golfers and donations are still needed.

“On the Banks of the Mahoning: How the River Shaped the Valley,” the first joint exhibit between Mahoning Valley and Trumbull County Historical Societies, will be on display at the Tyler History Center, Youngstown, through Sept. 15. The exhibit, staged in the Youngstown Foundation Community History Gallery, explores the river’s importance to the indigenous people who originally inhabited this area and how the early settlers found the waterway’s wealth of resources. Over time, the Mahoning River has transformed and been transformed by industry, transportation, and recreation.The Tyler History Center is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday, noon to 4 p.m.
