Boys varsity lacrosse beats Louisville

The Boardman High School boys varsity lacrosse team beat Louisville High School with a score of 7-6 on April 2. Alex Wood led all scorers with a hat trick of three goals and two assists. Egan Hare scored one and had three assists and Dom Barber netted one with two assists. Mark Filicky led the team in ground balls and scored his first goal of the year and freshman Anthony Barber scored his first high school goal. Chris Barber saved five in goal and Jack DeJoseph saved two.

Boys varsity lacrosse falls to Meadville

The Boardman High School boys varsity lacrosse team fell to Meadville Area Senior High School with a score of 19-3 on March 23. The Spartans fell behind 3-0 in the first. Egan Hare put the Spartans on the board with goal from a pass by Dom Barber. Alex Wood added a quick second goal to cut the lead to 3-2. Meadville answered with two of their own to extend the lead to 5-2. The Bulldogs scored another six before Barber scored an unassisted goal to make it 11-3. Chris Barber had seven saves and Jack DeJoseph saved three.

Freshman beat Perry

The Boardman boys freshman baseball team beat Perry High School with a score of 7-4 on April 6. The game was tied at four in the bottom of the sixth when Colin Thomas singled on a one and two count to give the Spartans the lead. Griffin Widrig came up later in the inning with a single to drive in two more runs to cap the victory. Jack Dascenzo started the game on the mound for the Spartans throwing two solid innings. Seth Cervello followed with three and two-thirds innings striking out three. Anthony Butto closed the game with one and one-third innings striking out three. Widrig paced the offense with two hits and two runs batted in. Jac Cordon, Alex Lindeman, Aidan Miller and Colin Thomas each added a hit and a run batted in. Cervello stole three bases, while Widrig, Butto, Dascenzo and Cordon each swiped a bag. The win improves the Spartan freshman record to 5-0.

Girls varsity softball downs Magnificat

The Boardman High School girls varsity softball downed Magnificat High School with a score of 5-3 on April 6. Jennifer Taraszewski threw a complete game striking out two. The Lady Spartans were paced by Dana Haus who went three for three, Lauren Maughan who went two for four with a run batted in, Jenna Olexa who went two for four with two runs batted in, Alicia Saxton who went one for three with a run batted in, Madison Lester who went one for four and Sammy Aey who went one for four.

Girls varsity softball falls to Cardinal Mooney

The Boardman High School girls varsity softball team fell to Cardinal Mooney High School with a score of 4-2 on April 6. Madison Lester threw a complete game striking out four. The Spartans were led by Jenna Olexa who went two for three, Kathryn Ohoro who went two for four, Madison Lester who went one for four with a run batted in, Ashley Saxton who went one for three, Lauren Maughan who went one for three and Nina Scavelli who went one for three.

Girls varsity track finishes in first place

The Lady Spartan track and field team won the East Palestine Invitational on April 6, out of a field of 19 teams. The Lady Spartans accumulated 130 points on the day to win the meet.

First place finishers on the day include the 4x800 relay of Bailey Moore, Isabelle Dwyer, Shayne Harris and Gina Gabriele with a time of 10:45.25. Kaylin Burkey won the high jump with a season best 5’ feet. Raegan Burkey won the 400 in 1:01.84. The 4x400 relay of Julia Schrembeck, Alayna Cuevas, Emma Tokarsky and Raegan Burkey won the event in a time of 4:16.03. Second place finishers on the day include the 4x200 relay of Bella Alvarico, Schrembeck, Tokarsky and Salina Jackson; Julia Gorby in the 1600 in a season best 5:46.35; Kaylin Burkey in the 300 hurdles in 52.05 and Cuevas in the 800 in a season best 2:35.55. Third place finishers on the day include Kaylin Burkey in a season best 16.85 in the 100 hurdles; the 4x100 relay of Keimanni Boyd, Destinee Hayes, Kennedy Page and Bella Alvarico; Sophia Mcgee in the 1600 in a season best 5:47.72; Moore in the 800 in a season best 2:37.22 and Lanny Kilpatrick in the high jump. The top three scorers on the season are Kaylin Burkey 64, Destinee Hayes 33 and Raegan Burkey 32.5.

Boys varsity baseball beats Austintown

The Boardman High School boys varsity baseball team beat Austintown Fitch High School with a score of 8-7 on April 3. The Spartans were able to overcome a tough day on defense and rallied late to win. Connor Miller, Travis Harvey and Mike Fetsko each had two runs batted in to lead the way for the Spartans.

Girls varsity softball falls to Poland

The Boardman High School girls varsity softball team fell to Poland Seminary High School with a score of 15-5 on April 4. For the Spartans, Vanessa Roush was two for four with a run batted in, Lauren Maugan was two for three, Madison Lester was two for three with a run batted in, Jenna Olexa was one for three with a run batted in and Alicia Saxton and Dana Haus both went one for three.

Boys varsity tennis beats Warren

The Boardman High School boys varsity tennis team beat Warren G. Harding High School with a score of 3-2 on April 4.

Winning for the Spartans were Ryder Kreps in singles and the doubles teams of Andy Beichner and Carter Mascola and Anthony Amendola and Miquel Santiago.

Boys varsity tennis falls to Ursuline

The Boardman High School boys varsity tennis team fell to Ursuline High School with a score of 4-1 on April 2. Winning the lone point for the Spantans were Anthony Amendola and Miquel Santiago at second doubles.

Boys varsity baseball loses to Austintown

The Boardman High School boys varsity baseball team lost to Austintown Fitch High School with a score of 7-0 on April 2. Jason Triveri had two hits for the Spartans. Tyler Peterson pitched four and a third innings. Defense struggled in the third inning as the Spartans committed three errors.

Boys varsity track finishes in first place

The Boardman High School boys varsity track team finished in first place at Howland High School with 83 points on April 2. The Spartans improve to 5-0 on the season.

Girls varsity track finishes first

The Boardman High School girls varsity track team finished in first place with 84 points at Howland High School on April 2. The Lady Spartan improved their record to 5-0 on the season. The 4x800 relay of Raegan Burkey, Gina Gabriele, Bailey Moore and Macy Potts opened up the scoring with a first place finish. Kaylin Burkey then finished first in the 100 high hurdles with her teammate Keimanni Boyd finishing second. Destinee Hayes then finished first in the 100 meter dash. In the 1600, Julia Gorby finished third in her first race of the season. The 4x100 relay of Keimanni Boyd, Hayes, Dre’Ana Elliott and Brigita Ositis finished in first. The Lady Spartan trio of Raegan Burkey, Emma Tokarsky and Alayna Cuevas swept the 400. Kaylin Burkey then won her second event of the night in the 300 low hurdles, with teammate Jordan Solmen finishing third. Sophia McGee and Hannah Ryan finished first and second in the 800. Hayes took first in the 200 with teammate Julia Schrembeck finishing third in her season debut. Isabelle Dwyer was the second place finisher in the 3200. The 4x400 relay of Alayna Cuevas, Salina Jackson, Emma Tokarsky and Raegan Burkey finished the track events with a victory in the event. In the field events the quartet of Kaylin Burkey, Lanny Kilpatrick, Haley Ho and Ryleigh Neill swept the high jump.In the shot put, Emily Carnahan finished second with teammate Annia Robles finishing third. In the discus, Carnahan also took second with teammate Ositis finishing third. Lanny Kilpatrick finished in first in the pole vault with her teammate Kenzie Widrig finishing third. Leading scorers for the Lady Spartans were: first, Kaylin Burkey with 40; second, Destinee Hayes with 28.5 and third, Emily Carnahan with 26.

Girls varsity softball beats Austintown

Boardman High School girls varsity softball beat Austintown Fitch High School with a score of 6-5 on April 2. Behind the big arm and big bat of Madison Lester, the Lady Spartans earned the victory. Lester entered the game in the fourth inning and pitched four shutout innings surrendering one hit while striking out five. She also went three for four at the plate with a double and two runs batted in. Lauren Maughan also had a great day at the plate going two for three with a run batted in. Vanessa Roush doubled and scored two runs and Dana Haus added a double and Samantha Aey added a single.

The Boardman High School boys varsity tennis team fell to Canfield with a score of 3-2 on April 3. Winning for the Spartans were Payton Curtis at second singles and Ryder Kreps at third singles.

Girls varsity softball loses to Austintown

The Boardman High School girls varsity softball team lost to Austintown Fitch with a score of 7-3 on April 3. Nina Scavelli hit the first home run of the season with a two-run hit to center field in the seventh. Jenna Olexa went two for four while Kathryn Ohoro, Madison Lester, Dana Haus and Vanessa Roush all tallied hits.

Boardman High School to host Cavs basketball clinic

Boardman High School will host a Cleveland Cavaliers Academy Basketball Clinic from 9 a.m. to noon on April 13. Check in begins at 8:30 a.m. Boys and girls ages 5 to 17 are invited to brush up on skills and drills. Included in the $75 registration fee are a Cavaliers Academy jersey and basketball, and one ticket to a select 2018-19 regular season Cavs home game. Register online at CavsYouth.com. Limited spots are available.
