Symphony tickets available
NEW WILMINGTON, PA.
The inaugural Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra at Westminster College series opens Oct. 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium, on campus, and tickets are still available.
The first concert, “Bernstein in Pittsburgh” under the direction of Manfred Honeck, features mezzo soprano Jennifer Johnson Cano.
Honeck will lead the orchestra in a centennial celebration of the birth of American composer Leonard Bernstein. The evening will be filled with pieces Bernstein conducted with the Pittsburgh Symphony early in his career, including works by Beethoven, Haydn and Stravinsky, as well as Bernstein’s own First Symphony, which the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra premiered in 1944.
On March 25, 2019, Honeck and the symphony will return to Westminster with violinist Julian Rachlin. The program will feature melodies from Grieg’s “Peer Gynt” – “Morning Mood” and “In the Hall of the Mountain King” – and Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto.

Dance party at Martha’s Boulevard
YOUNGSTOWN
The Matrix Band, featuring Greg Johnson, will perform at Martha’s Boulevard Tavern, 3503 Southern Blvd., at 9 p.m. Saturday.
Admission is $5 to this end of summer party, and there will be line dancing and a best-dressed contest. Guests are asked to bring bottled water to be donated to the victims of Hurricane Florence.
