ASSOCIATIONS

American Association of University Women Youngstown Branch will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday in the parlor of St. John Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave., Youngstown. Elder Rosetta Carter will speak about the “Dress to Succeed” ministry and will give an update on ACTION. Tonya Bourne will offer an optional tour of the “Dress to Succeed” area located at the church. Mahoning Retired Teachers Association will meet for its fall luncheon at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Drake’s Landing in Canfield. The social hour is at 11 with lunch at 11:45. Phillip Butto will preside. AUXILIARIES

Auxiliary of St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital and St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital will meet at noon Monday in the Azalea Room of St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital. Guest speaker will be Loretta Ekoniak, co-author of “Slovaks of the Greater Mahoning Valley.”

CLUBS

Altrusa Club of Youngstown will meet at 5 p.m. Thursday at TJ’s Restaurant in Boardman. Dinner will take place at 5:30 and the meeting will be at 6:30. Boardman Library Chess Club will meet from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Boardman Public Library, 7680 Glenwood Ave. All ages may come and learn, improve and play. The club meets each month.

Mahoning Valley Chapter of Polka Dot Powerhouse will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at The Upstairs Restaurant, 4500 Mahoning Ave., Austintown. Lunch is from a limited menu. Anyone interested in attending must register, space is limited. The speaker will be Becky Keck, SMARTS (Students Motivated by the Arts) president. Youngstown Section of the National Council of Negro Women Inc. will host its monthly meeting Saturday at the McGuffey Centre, 1649 Jacobs Road, Youngstown. POLITICAL CLUBS

Trumbull County Republican Party will host its monthly breakfast at the Buckeye Club, 366 N. Park, Warren, at 9 a.m. Sept. 15. Parking in rear of building. D.A.R.E. Singles Group meets at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays at Disciples Christian Church, 565 Boardman-Canfield Road. The group has scheduled the following activities: Friday, card night at Denny’s on Mahoning Ave., Austintown from 6 to 10 p.m.; Saturday, Putt-Putt at Sports World, South Avenue in Boardman at 6 p.m.; Wednesday, volunteer at Second Harvest Food Bank from 5 to 7 p.m.; and Thursday, small-talk night at the church at 7:30 p.m.

SOCIEties

Boardman William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society will meet at 10 a.m. Sept. 15 at Kravitz’s Deli, 3135 Belmont Ave., Liberty, in the meeting room. Cost is $5 for members and $6 for nonmembers. Reservations are suggested, and walk-ins are admitted based on seating availability. Salem Historical Society will meet Tuesday. SUPPORT GROUPS

Grief Recovery and Support Group will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday for 10 weeks,at the care center of the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home, North Main St., Hubbard. The support group was formed to reach out to help families who have lost loved ones.

NAMI Mahoning Valley offers Connections support groups for adults living with mental illness, in a discussion format, to promote self-disclosure in a safe, relaxed, supportive and confidential environment. Connections meets the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 6 p.m. at Alta Care Building, 142 Javit Court, Austintown. NAMI Mahoning Valley also offers Family Support Groups that provide information and support for family members and friends of individuals with mental illness. Family groups meet the first Thursday of each month at 11 a.m. at Girard Library, 105 E. Prospect St.; and the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at Alta Care, 142 Javit Court. St. Joseph Church, Austintown, will offer DivorceCare, a 12-week course/discussion group for those who are going through or have gone through a separation or divorce. The program addresses through education and discussion the most common issues associated with divorce/separation and promotes powerful healing so that participants can move on to build a new life. The three components of DivorceCare are educational video presentations, supportive and safe group discussions facilitated by trained facilitators who have experienced divorce and resources for home use. DivorceCare will be offered for 12 consecutive Mondays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. beginning Sept. 10. Participants need not be members of St. Joseph or any church to participate. Youngstown Area PFLAG will have its monthly support meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave., Youngstown. Youngstown Area PFLAG (Parents, Families, Friends, and Allies) is a support, education and advocacy group United with LGBT People to move equality forward. Support meetings are the second Tuesday of each month. PFLAG provides the opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity and strives to create a society respectful of human diversity. Meetings are free and confidential.
