v Jay Leno, 7:30 p.m.: The former “Tonight” host returns to the Valley for a show ($45 to $85 at the box office) at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave., Youngstown.

Holiday parade seeks sponsors, participants

YOUNGSTOWN

The annual holiday parade and tree lighting ceremony downtown will take place Nov. 30.

To become a sponsor or to participate in the parade, go to youngstowncityscape.com. For information, call 330-742-4040.

The event will begin at 4 p.m. on Central Square and will include a Youngstown Holiday Flea at the Powers Auditorium grand lobby, free admission to the OH WOW! children’s museum and a youth jersey giveaway night at the Phantoms hockey game at Covelli Centre.

The parade will start at 6:30 p.m. and will run along Federal Street. It will be followed by photos with Santa Claus.

Opera presents two lectures

Opera Western Reserve will present two lectures this week.

On Tuesday, David Vosburgh, production director of OWR, will present a 40-minute lecture on “How It Gets from Page to Stage,” detailing the behind-the-scenes work that goes into choosing and producing opera. The presentation will largely focus on OWR’s upcoming production of “Madama Butterfly,” and will take place at 6 p.m. at the Canfield Public Library, 43 W. Main St.

On Thursday, Johnathan Farris, a Youngstown State University art history professor, will lecture on the effect of Japanese culture on Western art and design. Titled “More than Vases and Fans: Japanese Influences in Western Art and Design in the 19th and early 20th Centuries,” the lecture will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Presidential Suite of Kilcawley Center, on the YSU campus.
