Time Traveler to make world debut in Branson
BRANSON, MO.
Silver Dollar City’s attraction Time Traveler is a $26 million custom-designed, custom-engineered attraction that introduces a new generation of thrill coasters for families. With the anticipated opening topping the “new-for-spring” events, Silver Dollar City in Branson, Mo., opens for the season Thursday.
In addition, the Showboat Branson Belle launches the 2018 season with a new show and more cruises, plus specialty cruises and vents. Cruises began March 9 and offer a unique experience aboard the 700-passenger paddle-wheeler, with multi-level decks for viewing scenic Table Rock Lake in Branson.
Silver Dollar City’s festival season kicks off with the Festival of Wonder in April, presenting amazing acts such as the Earth Harp Collective with the world’s largest playable stringed instrument, X-Pogo Stuntmen and CirqUnique with fire juggling and balancing acts. May’s Bluegrass & BBQ leads into summer’s Summer Concert Series, Star-Spangled Summer and Moonlight Madness, followed by Southern Gospel Picnic, Country Music Weekend and the National Crafts & Cowboy Festival in fall. An Old Time Christmas in November and December features the acclaimed Christmas in Midtown and 6.5 million lights, ending with the New Year’s Celebration.
Ky. horse country attractions teaming up for tours
LEXINGTON, Ky.
The Kentucky Horse Park and Kentucky Derby Museum are teaming up to offer spring tours for people wanting to learn more about famous thoroughbreds.
Called the Legacy and Legend Tour, it includes transportation, lunch, admissions and a guided, behind-the-scenes experience.
Officials said guests will begin the tour at the Derby Museum in Louisville. Besides experiencing the museum, they can watch morning workouts at Churchill Downs.
Guests will then go by chartered bus to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. The experience includes touring the grounds to visit memorials to Man o’ War and Secretariat. They’ll also have a chance to meet Kentucky Derby winners Funny Cide and Go for Gin.
Tours are available April 5, 12 and 19 for $200 per person; and April 26 and May 3 for $250 per person.
Indianapolis children’s museum opening $24.5M park
INDIANAPOLIS
The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis could see a big bump in attendance from its $24.5 million outdoor attraction slated to open this month.
The new Riley Children’s Health Sports Legends Experience includes 12 outdoor and three indoor exhibits with activities from a variety of sports. The museum hopes the 7.5-acre expansion gives families more reason to visit during the warmer months, the Indianapolis Business Journal reported .
“Weather certainly is a factor in our attendance,” said Lisa Townsend, the museum’s vice president of marketing and external relations. “So we are hoping that when we have really beautiful spring and summer days, people are going to think more about the Children’s Museum, whereas in the past they may have chosen to do something else outdoors.”
The Sports Legends Experience will open Saturday. Tickets for both the museum and outdoor experience range from $16 to $37 depending on how far ahead they’re purchased, Townsend said. Tickets for just the outdoor experience can be purchased for under $10 but are good only from 5-8 p.m.
