Morgantown, W.VA.

The Mahoning Valley Scrappers (10-3) were unable to kick start their offense and the West Virginia Black Bears responded with their first win of the season against their Pinckney Division rival.

In Friday’s 6-2 loss, the Scrappers fell behind early and couldn’t catch up.

Melvin Jimenez’s two-out single in the second inning put the Black Bears ahead 1-0.

The Black Bears took advantage of a walk and two errors to add two runs in the bottom of the third on Jhon Herrera’s two-run double.

An infield single and a passed ball helped add three more runs in the fifth inning.

The Scrappers avoided the shutout in the top of the eighth after loading the bases with no outs. Richie Palacios singled to score Gabriel Mejia and Jose Fermin scored the second run on a double-play groundout.

In the loss, Tyler Freeman extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

Cameron Mingo (1-1) allowed three earned runs on six hits in four innings.
