ASSOCIATIONS

Mill Creek Chapter of ABWA will meet July 10 at the Georgeanne Parker Pavilion in Boardman Park. Networking will take place at 6 p.m. followed by a picnic-style dinner at 6:30. Menu includes chicken, and casseroles brought by each member. Cost is $7 and reservations may be made by calling Darlene Demjen at 330-755-9089 or Marilyn Abramski at 330-726-2527, by June 30. The installation of the 2018-19 officers will take place during the meeting. The public is welcome.

CLUBS

Round Table Woodcarvers meet every Thursday from 9 to 11:45 a.m. at the Senior Center, 1110 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. Anyone interested in learning about carving is welcome to attend. For information, call 330-792-4355.

RELIGIOUS GROUPS

Youngstown South Christian Women's Connection will meet for the "The Star Spangled Banner Waves" luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. July 11 at Avion on the Water Banquet Center, 2177 W. Western Reserve Road, Canfield. The guest speaker will be Bess Stettler, Goshen, Ind., as she presents "There's No Place Like Home." Genevieve's Kitchen will be featured and music will be presented by Rachel Joy. Cost is $14 and includes lunch. Reservations must be made by July 4 and cancellations are necessary. D.A.R.E. Singles Group meets at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays at Disciples Christian Church, 565 Boardman-Canfield Road. The group has scheduled the following activities: Saturday, Hot Rod Super Nationals at Canfield Fairgrounds, meet at the Big Rock at 10 a.m.; Monday,meet at DQ in Cornersburg for dessert, 7 p.m., Tuesday will be bocce at Boardman Park at 6 p.m., Wednesday will be walking at Mill Creek Park Walking Trail at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, , Birthday Night at the church, 7:30 p.m.; next Friday, card night at Denny’s on Mahoning Avenue, Austintown from 6 to 10 p.m.; next Saturday will be Music in Boardman Park, 122nd Army Band at 6:30 p.m.

SOCIETIES

Niles Historical Society will meet for its regular membership meeting at 10 a.m. July 7 in the Westenfield Room at the Ward-Thomas Museum. Plans will be discussed for the upcoming Heritage Day on Aug. 4.

SUPPORT GROUPS

Alzheimer Network Family Support Groups will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Easter Seals Adult Day Center, 721 Boardman-Poland Road, Boardman; at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Emmanuel Lutheran Education Building, 251 S. Grief Share Support Group, hosted by Churchill United Methodist Church, 189 Church Hill-Hubbard Road, Liberty, meets each Thursday at 6 p.m. through Aug. 14. NAMI Mahoning Valley offers support and education to people and families dealing with serious mental illness. Support groups are as follows: Connection, a group for individuals with a mental health diagnosis, meets the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at 6 p.m. at Alta Care Building, 142 Javit Court, Austintown; every Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Community Center, 1344 Fifth Ave, Youngstown; every third Thursday at 1 p.m. at Madison Commons, 741 Madison, Youngstown; and the first and third Mondays at 6 p.m. at Madison Commons, 741 Madison, Youngstown. This group is specifically for individuals dealing with substance abuse and mental illness. Family Support, a group for family members of a person with mental illness meets every first Thursday at 11 a.m. at Girard Library, 105 E. Safe Talks with Valerie Flanigan, licensed social worker, will be presented by Judge Beth A. Smith of Mahoning County Domestic Relations Court from 10 to 11 a.m. each Wednesday in June at the Mahoning County Courthouse, basement level. These meetings are intended for anyone who has safety concerns in their relationship or who experience domestic violence. Week one will cover the signs of an abusive personality, week two will cover the topics of power, control and the cycle of violence, week three will cover how to know if someone has changed and week four will cover understanding emotional abuse.
