The Canfield High School Soccer Boosters had its annual Soccer Kids Camp for Canfield Soccer Club Recreational League players June 11-15.

The boosters sponsored the youth soccer camp, which took place at the Herbert Road Fields, with the help of the Canfield High School boys and girls soccer team members and Phil Simone, Canfield High School girls head soccer coach and Christian Silvestri, Canfield High School boys head soccer coach

Each day, Canfield High School soccer team members helped campers from ages 5-13 practice age-appropriate drills such as passing, shooting, dribbling or defense with an emphasis on individual skills, teamwork, sportsmanship and fun. The campers moved from station to station to learn the different skills from the players.

The days of the camp had a theme, including Monday as USA Day, during which campers were encouraged to wear red, white and blue; Tuesday was Crazy/Mismatched Sock Day, during which campers wore any type of silly socks; Wednesday was Red and Black Day, during which campers could wear their Cardinal gear; Thursday was Beach/Hawaiian Day, during which campers wore tropical clothing and Friday was Kids Camp T-shirt Day, during which campers were to wear the T-shirt they received for attending the camp.

As a special treat on Beach/Hawaiian Day, the Canfield Cardinal Joint Fire District visited the fields at the end of the camp to cool off the campers with their fire hoses.

The camp is a fundraiser for Canfield High School Soccer Boosters, with the proceeds going to the program for various team expenses, including purchasing new uniforms. The campers were provided with popsicles and water and were entered into daily gift card prize drawings, all donated by soccer families.

“The Canfield Soccer Club rec league players have fun while they are here. They enjoy meeting and learning from and spending time with the high school players,” said Canfield High School Soccer Boosters President Tracey Stein.
