ASSOCIATIONS

American Association of University Women Youngstown Branch will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday for a potluck picnic and installation of officers at the home of Clydine Watson Dickey, 575 Creed St., Struthers. Contact Judith Stanger at yelobirdpa@gmail.com for information.

Mahoning Retired Teachers Association will meet June 13 at Drake's Landing, 2177 W. Western Reserve Road, Canfield. The social time will begin at 11 a.m., and lunch will be at 11:45. The meeting and program will follow. Susan Harris will preside. Dr. Jay Brock from the Cleveland Clinic will discuss advances in cancer treatment and research. The community-service collection will go toward the Potential Development Center. The menu will include grilled chicken salad or a buffet lunch of pot roast, mashed potatoes with gravy, roasted vegetables, tossed salad, rolls and dessert. All area educators are invited to attend. CLUBS

Mahoning Valley Chapter of Polka Dot Powerhouse will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. June 12 at The Upstairs restaurant, 4500 Mahoning Ave., Austintown. Positive women interested in business connections can attend their first meeting at no cost. The cost of lunch is from a limited menu. The speaker will be Brenda Williams, inventor of the Stap Wrap and financial representative with Western and Southern Life Insurance Co. DANCES

Friendly Squares will host its monthly square dance from 7:30 to 10 p.m. June 9 at the Niles Scope Center, 14 E. State St., Niles. Ed Pabst will be the caller and Frankie Hammond will be calling line dances between the tips. This will be a high/low dance with tips for new and experienced dancers. Warren Women's Connection, affiliate of Stonecroft Ministries, will host a luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. June 11 at DiLucia's Banquet Center, 2610 Elm Road, NE. Speaker will be Pat Tuttle who will discuss "Singing in the Rain." Christylee Roose will provide a musical program. Diane Theis will be featured as she displays Premier Jewelry. Youngstown South Christian Women's Connection will meet for the "Oh! The Sun Shines Bright" luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. June 13 at Avion on the Water Banquet Center, 2177 W. Western Reserve Road, Canfield. The guest speaker will be Lori Kempton, of Fairfield Township, as she presents "Change Happens." D.A.R.E. Singles Group meets at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays at Disciples Christian Church, 565 Boardman-Canfield Road. The group has scheduled the following activities: today, movie night at Regal Cinema Austintown at 6:30 p.m.; Tuesdays in June will be bocce at Boardman Park at 6 p.m., Wednesdays in June will be walking at Mill Creek MetroParks Walking Trail at 6:30 p.m., Thursday is new member and game night at the church, and next Friday will be card night from 6 to 10 p.m. at Denny’s on Mahoning Ave., Austintown.

SUPPORT GROUPS

Alzheimer Network Family Support Groups will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Zion Reformed United Church of Christ, 260 Main St., Greenville, Pa.; and 10 a.m. Wednesday at Children's Rehabilitation, 855 Howland-Wilson Road, Howland. Grief Share Support Group, hosted by Churchill United Methodist Church, 189 Church Hill-Hubbard Road, Liberty, meets each Thursday at 6 p.m. through Aug. 14. Judge Beth A. Smith of Mahoning County Domestic Relations Court will present Safe Talks with Valerie Flanigan, licensed social worker, from 10 to 11 a.m. every Wednesday in June at the Mahoning County Courthouse, basement level. These meetings are intended for anyone who has safety concerns in their relationship or who expereince domestic violence. Week one will cover the signs of an abusive personality, week two will cover the topics of power, control and the cycle of violence, week three will cover how to know if someone has changed and week four will cover understanding emotional abuse. Next Step Group, a 12-step group to help people break the bonds of codependency will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Ursuline Center, 4280 Shields Road, Canfield, and will meet each week.
