Austintown woman faces drug charges

AUSTINTOWN — After telling police she did not have a driver’s license, a township woman was arrested for heroin possession at a traffic stop.

According to a police report, officers were sent to Taco Bell, 4523 Mahoning Ave., for a possible overdose Sunday night, and were told an employee, Chelsea Morris, was acting strangely.

Morris told police she did not have a driver’s license and was not feeling well, according to the report.

She said she was taking prescription Suboxone, and did not have any illegal drugs in her possession, the report said.

Morris told police she would arrange a ride home from work, and officers left the business before 9 p.m. Shortly after that time, however, officers witnessed Morris driving, and pulled her over, the report said.

Officers noted she acted nervously, pacing around the vehicle during the stop. An officer then spotted a syringe in a yard a couple feet from Morris, the report said.

The needle was still warm, and its contents field tested positive for heroin, according to the report.

Morris faces charges of possession of drugs, possession of drug-abuse instruments and tampering with evidence. Her preliminary hearing is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Mahoning County Area Court.
