Trio face charges after traffic stop yields gun, pot

YOUNGSTOWN — Three city men face charges after a traffic stop Friday yielded marijuana and a gun, police said.

Rodney McMeans, 23, was pulled over at about 8:20 p.m. Friday on the South Side for an improper turn and looked like he was trying to hide something, reports said.

Reports said he had a bag of marijuana in his hand and told police he had a gun in the glove compartment. The car was searched after McMeans and two passengers, Robert Spragling, 22 and Jermaine Williams, 24, both of Youngstown, were taken out because the car smelled heavily of marijuana.

When police searched the car they found a 9mm round on the floor and the magazine underneath a towel in the back seat. McMeans told police he bought the gun, a Glock 19, at a gun show for $526, reports said. He was arrested and will be arraigned in municipal court today on charges of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

Spragling was cited for possession of marijuana after police found eight bags of marijuana and was taken into custody because he has two warrants from municipal court.

Williams was issued a citation for possession of marijuana as well, reports said.
