Oprah: ‘I don’t have the DNA’ for a presidential bid

ATLANTA

Before her iconic Golden Globes speech sparked a new presidential push on social media, Oprah Winfrey declared that she’s not interested in a White House bid.

The billionaire media mogul says in a newly published interview that she’s aware of the clamoring among Democrats and liberals looking to counter President Donald Trump, a wealthy real-estate titan who parlayed his reality-TV career into the presidency.

“I’ve always felt very secure and confident with myself in knowing what I could do and what I could not,” Winfrey told InStyle magazine. “And so it’s not something that interests me. I don’t have the DNA for it.”

The 63-year-old Winfrey is among the wealthiest businesswomen in the country and is one of the world’s most recognizable black women, perhaps exceeded only by former first lady Michelle Obama.

Casey Affleck will not attend Oscars

LOS ANGELES

In another apparent consequence of the Me Too movement, last year’s best actor Oscar winner Casey Affleck will not be presenting at or attending the 90th Academy Awards.

Affleck’s publicist said Thursday that the actor would not be at the ceremony March 4 where, traditionally, he would have been expected to present the award for best actress as the reigning best actor winner.

A film academy spokesperson said they “appreciate the decision to keep the focus on the show and on the great work of this year.”

The “Manchester by the Sea” actor faced sexual harassment allegations in 2010 in two public civil suits during the production of the mockumentary “I’m Still Here.”

The suits were settled for undisclosed sums and Affleck has said that the terms of the settlement prevent him from discussing the matter.

Flavor Flav attacked

LAS VEGAS

A man who served prison time in Nevada for involuntary manslaughter is facing a misdemeanor battery charge in an attack involving entertainer Flavor Flav at a Las Vegas casino, authorities said Thursday.

The 58-year-old rapper and reality television star, whose real name is William Jonathan Drayton Jr., was treated at a hospital after the late Tuesday incident at the South Point, according to police and his lawyer, Kristina Wildeveld.

The alleged attacker, Ugandi Howard, 44, of Las Vegas, was given a summons to appear March 6 in Las Vegas Justice Court, police Officer Laura Meltzer said.
