Charged after chase
AUSTINTOWN
A man rolled down his window during a car chase and while driving looked back at the officer pursuing – more than once – police said.
Police tried to pull the man over Monday evening for not using a signal while turning onto Mahoning Avenue, according to the report. The car sped off, and an officer followed.
The driver, Jonathan Brown, 50, of Rosemont Avenue, pulled suddenly into Periscoop Submarine, 3101 Mahoning Ave., got out of the vehicle, and headed toward the business, ignoring police orders to stay in the car, according to the report.
Brown told police, “I didn’t stop because I wanted to get my girlfriend her car back,” and said he didn’t want to risk her car being towed.
Police cited Brown for having a suspended driver’s license, failure to use a turn signal and charged him with failure to comply with a police officer’s order.
Suspicious males in vans

Township police Chief Jeff White says his department is “definitely making progress” in its investigation into two instances of teens reporting suspicious males in minivans. White said Wednesday he was not prepared to release information to the public, however.
The first incident was at 4:36 p.m. Jan. 16, when a Champion High School student, 15, reported a male in a white panel minivan with gray molding drove past her on Mahoning Avenue, then turned around and pulled beside her and started speaking to her. She ran to a house and called 911.
A second incident occurred at 3:16 p.m. Friday on State Road involving a 16-year-old boy riding a bicycle.
The teen said a male in a dark work van with a white ladder rack and no side windows in the cargo area stopped in the plaza parking lot near the Dairy Queen and yelled at him. The teen said the van headed east onto Towson Drive and disappeared. The van’s paint job had been spray-painted, the boy said.
Dog-attack warning

The Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office is urging residents in the Newton Falls area to use caution and beware of aggressive dogs that have attacked two people, including a deputy, within the past three days.
Residents also are encouraged not to approach the dogs due to their aggressive natures; and report any sightings to the Trumbull County 911 Center.
On Monday, an employee of Venture Plastics on Ravenna-Warren Road in Newton Township was attacked by three German shepherds running lose on company property.
The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of numerous cuts suffered in the attack.
Two of the dogs were black with tan paws, and the third dog was black and tan in color.
On Tuesday, the dogs were spotted in the area of state Route 534 and Carson-Salt Springs Road in Newton Township but were not found by a search by deputies.
County deputies were called to the East River Road area Wednesday in reference to three German shepherd dogs attacking farm animals. While searching, a deputy fired a shot at the dogs who charged him aggressively. The dogs ran back into the woods.
Deputies and Newton Falls Village police searched the area on foot and with all-terrain vehicles, but could not find the dogs.
