Local lawmakers ask governor to assist Al Adi

YOUNGSTOWN

Local state lawmakers have reached out to Gov. John Kasich for help with the case of Youngstown businessman Amer “Al” Adi Othman.

The letter, signed by Sen. Joe Schiavoni of Boardman, D-33rd, and Rep. Michele Lepore-Hagan of Youngstown, D-58th, asks the governor to devote any and all available resources to ensure Adi’s timely release.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials detained Adi on Jan. 17 during what he believed to be a routine check-in meeting.

He has remained on hunger strike in ICE’s custody since then.

The letter states that Adi embodies American values.

“We sincerely hope that you will join this fight for the sake of preserving a family and sending a message of hope to others around the nation,” the letter reads.
