Youngstown man gets 13-year prison sentence for 2015 shooting


YOUNGSTOWN — A 20-year-old who pleaded guilty to robbing one person, shooting another and shooting at a police officer in March 2015 when he was 17 was sentenced today in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court to 13 years in prison.

Judge John M. Durkin handed down the sentence to Evon Cruz.

The officer was not injured. He was shot at when Cruz bailed out of a stolen car and ran away.

He also was sentenced for shooting a man in the leg and robbing another man of cash while he was waiting in the victim's car to get out of the cold.

Prosecutors had recommended 15 years in prison.
