Hoerig case featured on 'CBS This Morning" today

YOUNGSTOWN — CBS News correspondent Erin Moriarty gave an update this morning on "CBS This Morning" on the Claudia Hoerig case, telling viewers about Hoerig having been returned to Trumbull County last Wednesday after nearly 11 years in her native Brazil.

Hoerig is charged with aggravated murder in the shooting death of her husband, Maj. Karl Hoerig, in their home on Ninth Street in Newton Falls. She pleaded not guilty Friday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court, her first reappearance in the county since her husband's death March 12, 2007.

The segment retold some of the information contained in Moriarty's "48 Hours" episode that aired in November. Moriarty said the episode is believed to have made a difference in getting Claudia Hoerig returned to the United States, especially because it showed Karl Hoerig's brother, Paul, visiting Brazil and "putting a face" on the family that lost Karl, a pilot in the United States Air Force Reserves and a commercial pilot.

But Moriarty learned of Claudia's return in much the same way most local reporters did – through a call or text message after she was already in the Trumbull County jail.
