Rescue Mission to have open house

YOUNGSTOWN

The Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley, founded in 1893, is kicking off a yearlong celebration this year, commemorating 125 years of homeless ministry in the Mahoning Valley with a public open house Thursday.

Doors will open at 4 p.m. at the current shelter at 962 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. for refreshments, tours and mingling with staff and friends of the mission.

Free parking is available across from the mission.

“Much more than just “three hots and a cot,” mission leadership said it hopes visitors will learn about the services and programs going on at the emergency shelter, which was founded by W.J. Price as Christ Mission Settlement at 408 E. Federal St.

“The open house is a perfect opportunity to look to the past and give thanks for all that God has done for 125 years,” said John Muckridge, mission president and CEO.

For information about the open house, call 330-744-5485.
