A homeless man was taken to the Trumbull County jail early Sunday after making repeated calls to the county 911 center asking to be taken to the Trumbull Regional Medical Center.
Justin D. Stamp, 35, whose previous address was on Hadley Street in Liberty, was charged with misusing the 911 system and criminal trespass and remained in jail Monday.
Officers first started getting calls about Stamp on Friday and were contacted by him or about him at least 10 times, police said.
Stamp said he had been living with a relative on Hadley, but the relative no longer allowed him to stay there, police said.
During one of the police calls, officers tried to get him placed in the Warren Family Mission, but mission officials said Stamp did not follow the organization’s rules and was no longer allowed to stay there.
During one of the calls, officers took Stamp to the basement lobby of the police station to get him out of the severe weather.
He called 911 on the wall phone at the police station after being warned to stop.
Police also took him to a coin-operated laundry at Youngstown Road and Willard Avenue. But that time, he called 911 saying he was having chest pains and needed to be hospitalized. He was taken to the hospital and later released. But Stamp would not leave, so a security officer called police about him again.
Officers finally arrested Stamp because police were “without any other resource at this time,” a police report says.
