The combined weight of ice and snow dumped by Friday’s and Saturday’s hard-hitting winter storm caused the 60,000-square-foot Creekside Golf Dome to collapse about 3 p.m. Saturday.
No patrons had been allowed into the dome at 1300 N. State St. before it collapsed, and as a consequence there were no injuries, said Jim St. George, Creekside manager.
St. George noted that Creekside’s golf simulator and its party and banquet center at the same address were not damaged and remain open for business.
St. George said there is “no question” the dome, opened in 1999, will be rebuilt. He said the next step is to meet with insurance representatives.
In other storm-related news, on Saturday morning the southbound exit ramp to U.S. Route 224 from Interstate 680 was temporarily closed after a three-car crash, According to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said three cars lost control and crashed into one another, and a fourth vehicle was stuck nearby.
Overnight, it was expected to be partly cloudy in Trumbull and Mahoning counties with possible snow showers leaving little or no accumulation.
According to the National Weather Service, snow is likely in the afternoon Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday with an accumulation of about an inch possible.
Another storm system may bring about 1 to 3 inches of additional accumulation Monday evening into Tuesday morning.
