YSU softball team splits in Virginia

The Youngstown State softball team cranked out 18 hits en route to an 11-3 win in six innings over Lafayette on Friday at the Hampton Tournament. The Penguins (3-3) dropped their second game to Buffalo, 8-3

Senior Hannah Lucas led the Penguins offensive outburst with three hits while senior Stevie Taylor went 2-for-4 with two a two-run home run and two RBIs.

Sophomore Maddi Lusk drove in three runs and had two singles. Sophomore Tatum Christy posted a pair of hits, including a double, and drove in two runs while freshman Nikki Saibene also had two hits with a double and two RBIs. Junior Lexi Zappitelli also had two singles for the Penguins.

Freshman pitcher Elle Buffenbarger picked up her first collegiate win tossing five innings with four strikeouts and not allowing an earned run. Junior Paige Geanangel picked up the save and struck out three.

Against Buffalo, the Penguins tallied just three hits in the 8-3 loss.
