ASSOCIATIONS

American Association of University Women Youngstown Branch is partnering during Women’s History Month with the League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown and will show “The Iron-Jawed Angels,” a 2004 film about American suffragists of the 1910s. The film will be shown at 6 p.m. March 5 in the Gathering Room of Ohio Living at Park Vista, 1216 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. AAUW Youngstown Branch members also have been invited to attend the 2018 Hall of Fame dinner of the League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown honoring new inductees. The dinner will take place at the YWCA 25 W. Rayen Ave. Youngstown, at 5:30 p.m. March 20. Reservations are required. Austintown Fitch High School Class of 1957 will meet March 6 for breakfast at 9:30 a.m. at Denny’s in Austintown. Class members will meet the first Tuesday of each month.

Hubbard High School Class of 1961 will host its 75th birthday party Aug. 17 and 18, with a social to begin at 6 p.m. Aug. 17 at the New Manhattan, 7262 Hubbard-Masury Road. A picnic will take place at noon Aug. 18 at Harding Park with lunch at 1 p.m. Cost is $5 per person which can be paid the day of the event. CLUBS

Newcomers of Mahoning Valley will meet at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Olive Garden, 853 Boardman-Poland Road, Boardman. Lunch will be served at noon. Hostesses are Phyllis Scoville and Jeanne Moore. Round Table Woodcarvers meet every Thursday from 9 to 11:45 a.m. at the Senior Center, 1110 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. Anyone interested in learning about carving is welcome to attend. For information, call 330-792-4355.

DANCES

The Friendly Squares will host its monthly square dance from 7:30 to 10 p.m. March 10 at the Niles SCOPE Center, 14 E. State St., Niles. Gene Hammond will be the caller and Frankie Hammond will be calling line dances. This will be a high/low dance with alternating tips for new dancers currently taking lessons and tips for more experienced dancers. Dress is casual and light refreshments will be served. LEAGUES

League of Women Voters of Trumbull County will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at the Howland Library, 9095 E. Market St. Guest speaker will be Atty. Koula Glaros-King from Community Legal Aid Services Inc. Glaros-King will speak about United States citizenship, the process of naturalization and the avenues to lawful permanent residence under current laws. Tickets for the May 10 show at Trumbull New Theatre will be available. Tickets are $15 with all proceeds to benefit the LWVTC Education General Fund. LIBRARY FRIENDS

Friends of the Austintown Library, 600 S. Raccoon Road, will meet at 10 a.m. Monday in the Community Room. Speaker will be Kalea Hall, business reporter for The Vindicator, who will discuss her visit to Cuba during the week of mourning for Fidel Castro. Friends of the Poland Library will meet at 9:30 a.m. March 6 in the meeting room. A program and business meeting will follow. Regina Rees, local professor and literacy specialist, will speak about “William Holmes McGuffey: The Schoolmaster of our Nation.” Meeting is open to the public and new members. Dues of $10 for the 2018 year. Hostesses will be Louise Martinko, Carol McCoy, Marisa Ricottilli and Lisa Orlando.

POLITICAL CLUBS

Trumbull County Federated Democratic Womens Club will meet at 6 p.m. March 5 at S.C.O.P.E. Inc. at the YWCA, 375 N. Park Ave., Warren. The meeting will take place in the Pine Room. Parking is available on both sides of the building and across the street. Mary Cummins will be introducing the program, and information will be provided on the card party scheduled for October. Canfield Republican Womens Club will host two Candidate Nights. The first is scheduled for March 7 at 6 p.m. at A La Cart Catering in Canfield. All Republican state and local candidates have been invited. Each candidate will have several minutes to introduce themselves and highlight their platform for the upcoming election. If time permits, individual questions from members and guests will be answered. The buffet dinner is $15 per person. Take your own beverages. Spouses and friends are encouraged to attend. D.A.R.E. Singles Group meets at 7:30 p.m. every Thursday at Disciples Christian Church, 565 Boardman-Canfield Road. The group has scheduled the following activities: Saturday, bowling at Boardman Lanes at 7:30 p.m.; Wednesday, pool at Wedgewood Lanes from 7 to 9 p.m.; Thursday, new member and game night at 7:30 p.m. at the church; March 2, card night at Denny’s on Mahoning Ave. in Austintown from 6 to 10 p.m.

SOCIETIES

Vienna Historical Society will present “Quilter’s Threads: Barn Quilts of Southern Ashtabula County” at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Vienna Township Hall, 848 Youngstown-Kingsville Road, Vienna. Participants will learn about Ashtabula Barn quilt projects and efforts to bring them to the area.

SUPPORT GROUPS

Alzheimer Network Family Support Groups will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Easter Seals Adult Day Center, 721 Boardman-Poland Road, Boardman; 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Emmanuel Lutheran education building, 251 S. Broadway Ave, Salem. Family members and caregivers are welcome to attend. All meetings are offered at no charge. For information, call 330-788-9755.

Codependency and Grief Support Group will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the care center of the Kelley-Robb-Cummins Funeral Home, North Main St., Hubbard. The support group was formed to reach out to help families who have lost loved ones to alcohol or substance abuse.

F.O.C.U.S. Breast-Cancer Survivors Support Group will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Eat ‘n Park, 5451 Mahoning Ave., Austintown. For information, call Eat ‘n Park at 330-779-0410. All breast-cancer survivors and their support system are welcome.

Good Hope Lutheran Church, 98 Homestead Drive, Boardman, will host a 13-week grief support series through the GriefShare ministry from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays through May 1. The GriefShare team provides a safe, understanding place for individuals to move through their personal grief journeys. Participants need not be church members. Each session is self-contained, so participants may enter at any session. Each session will include videos featuring some of the nation’s foremost experts on grief recovery. Sessions also include small group support and a workbook for personal study. Participants are welcome to share stories, but are never forced. Attendance at consecutive sessions is encouraged for maximum benefit. Cost is $20. Checks should be made payable to Good Hope. Scholarships also are available at registration. NAMI Mahoning Valley offers support groups for those who deal with mental illness. Support groups meet as follows: Girard Family Support, first Thursday of each month at 11 a.m. at the Girard Library, 105 E. Prospect St., and Austintown Family Support Group, 7 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at Alta Care, 142 Javit Court. NAMI Connection, a support group for people with a mental health diagnosis meets at the following locations: 1:30 p.m. Thursdays at the Community Center, 1344 Fifth Ave., Youngstown; 6 p.m. the second and fourth Thursdays at Alta Care in Austintown; and NAMI Connection for the Dual Diagnosed will meet at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at the Community Center, 1344 Fifth Ave., Youngstown.
