Boardman Optimist Club honors essayists

The Boardman Optimist Club recently gave awards to the winners of its annual essay contest during a presentation in the library at Boardman High School. Sgt. Chuck Hillman, club president, and Nancy Hildebrand presented certificates and Barnes & Noble gift cards to three BHS juniors, Mia Lewis, first place; Christina LaRocca, second place, and Isabella Nordquist, third place. Lewis’ essay will advance to the Ohio District level for a chance to win a $2,500 scholarship. The topic of this year’s contest is “Can Society Function Without Respect?” Above, from left, are Hillman, Lewis and Hildebrand.
