Neighors | Submitted .The Boardman swim and dive team captured first place in 20 out of 24 events, broke one school record, seven A.A.C. Conference records and broke five pool records while winning the team competitions at the 2018 A.A.C. Championships at Warren G. Harding High School. Pictured is the Lady Spartans swim and dive team.
The Boardman swim and dive team captured first place in 20 out of 24 events, broke one school record, seven A.A.C. Conference records and broke five pool records while winning the team competitions at the 2018 A.A.C. Championships at Warren G. Harding High School.
The Spartans have won the A.A.C. title the past four years. Kyle Kimerer was voted “Male Swimmer of the Meet.”
Megan Janak broke the school record for 11 dives. Her point total of 406.80 broke the mark of 404 points set last year by Madison Rast. Kyle Kimerer set the tone for the Spartans boys by setting new conference and pool records in the 100 (46.85) and 200 freestyle (1:43.05) and the 100 butterfly (51.05). Kimerer was also a member of the two relays the broke the conference and pool records. He teamed with Callen Aulizia, Matthew DunLany and Noah Basista in both the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. The Spartan relays knocked three seconds off the 200 free relay conference record (1:26.90) and four seconds off the 400 freestyle relay conference record. The girls set a new A.A.C. record in the 400 freestyle relay. Jennah Markovitch, Sarah Murray, Alyssa Dinapoli and Mikel Flatley knocked a second of the record with the first place time of 3:49.36. Sarah Murray also took down the 200 freestyle conference record with the time of 2:05.20.
“Winning the girls and boys A.A.C. titles for the past four years is a great accomplishment for our swimmers and divers,” Head Coach Terry O’Halloran said. “They work hard at practice and support each other when needed. Our athletes are now fighting their way through the hardest time of our season in the water, on the boards and in the classroom. Our job as coaches is pretty clear. We need to keep working them hard and help them stay focused on their end of the season team and personal goals.”
Double individual conference event winners included Sarah Murray in the 200 and 500 freestyle, Callen Aulizia in the 50 and 100 freestyle, Noah Basista in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke. Individual conference winners included Jordan Stackpole (500 freestyle), Alison Kuras (100 breaststroke), Jennah Markovitch (50 freestyle), Mikel Flatley (200 individual medley) and Alyssa Dinapoli (100 freestyle).
For the rest of the team, the scores are as follows, in the 200 medley relays, the girls team of Alyssa Dinapoli, Alison Kuras, Mikel Flatley and Jennah Markovitch placed first, and the boys team of Will Linker, Jordan Stackpole, Mason Rassega and David Giancola placed first as well. In the 200 freestyle, Sarah Murray and Kyle Kimerer placed first, Jordan Stackpole came in second and Will Linker and Sidney Hull placed third. In the 200 individual medley, Mikel Flatley and Noah Basista took first. For the 50 freestyle, Jennah Markovitch and Callen Aulizia placed first, David Giancola came in second and Mason Rassega took third.
In the 1-meter diving 11 dives, Megan Janak came in first, Gizzy Kelso took second and Madison Ricciuti and Teddy Anzevino placed third. In the 100 butterfly, Mikel Flatley and Matthew DunLany came in second and Kyle Kimerer took first. For the 100 freestyle, Alyssa Dinapoli and Callan Aulizia took first, Ella Hare took second and Masson Rassega placed third. In the 500 freestyle, Sarah Murray and Jordan Stackpole took Sidney Hull placed third, and Will Linker came in second. For the 200 freestyle relay, the girls team of Sarah Murray, Ella Hare, Sarah Varga and Alison Kuras took first place, as well as the boys team of Callen Aulizia, Kyle Kimerer, Matthew DunLany and Noah Basista, In the 100 backstroke, Alyssa Dinapoli placed second and Matthew DunLany placed third. In the 100 breaststroke, Alison Kuras and Noah Basista took first while Abby Yocum and David Giancola placed third. For the 400 freestyle relay, the girls team of Jennah Markovitch, Sarah Murray, Alyssa Dinapoli and Mikel Flatley took first place as well as the boys teams of Kyle Kimerer, Matthew DunLany, Noah Basista and Callen Aulizia.
